  • Best for beginners.
  • Built-in cocking mechanism, which makes the job much easier.
  • The HeliCoil technology enables the free-floating of the arrow and string above the rail.

Cons I found:

  • Clutch slippage is one of the problems we face. As per analysis, it allows you to complete the first 20–25 shots. But after that, you’ll start encountering the clutch slipping problem.
  • Ravin R10 crossbow strings can start to wither after almost 50-60 shots.
  • Slightly stumbles to handle the release of the arrow.

Size and weight

Per our analysis, the Ravin R10 is a compact, light crossbow. The overall weight of this crossbow is 6.8 lbs., which is respectively lightweight for a crossbow of this size and power. It measures a length of 33” as per the scale, making it easy to carry and feasible for an extended hunting period.

The size of this crossbow makes it a fantastic choice for hunters in tight quarters and narrow spaces.

Design and Construction

The Ravin R10 is more compact than its predecessor, the R9. Its axle-to-axle width is 10.5 inches uncocked and only 6 inches when cocked. The Ravin R10 shows 6.8 pounds on our measurement. It is designed for run-and-gun situations. It is lightweight, durable, and highly maneuverable with padded construction. It has an upgraded shaft with a shorter pattern.

Likewise, it is famous for its built-in HeliCoil Technology and Versa-Draw cocking mechanism.

The vision of the circles in the scope is a little concerning. They are challenging to see, though you can change the colors from black to red to bright green.

Speed, Arrows, and Quiver

We discovered that the Ravin R10 is amazingly fast, speedy, and has a velocity of almost 400 FPS. The package has three Ravin arrows (400 grain) with notches,  perfectly matching the crossbow’s power and speed. The material used is of excellent quality, maintaining the durability and accuracy of arrows with each shot.

As per testing, this crossbow was able to kill a deer, which was approximately 100 yards away.

The quiver is an essential auxiliary for any bow hunter or archer, but this quiver disappointed us. It is sturdy and can hold three arrows. The center slot is quite tight, which makes the hunt difficult. The two spaces on the outside are too close, which makes the nock get loose quickly.

Scope

The Ravin R10 Crossbow has an illuminated 1.5-5x32mm scope with a range of 100 yards. It contains a fully-coated lens with a red and green illuminated reticle.

The scope is so clear that you can quickly look away through it. It is fogfree and waterproof with kickback-resistant technology.  It has focusing points for 20–100 yards in 10-yard increments. You have to twist a dial on the scope to match the demarcation line with the velocity of your crossbow. Shocks are also present within it.

Trigger

The trigger of Ravin R10 is one crucial point to consider. It has a distinct built-in trigger mechanism with a crisp 4-pound trigger, which gives you control over your shot. A nylon strap blocks the Ravin R10 trace trigger.

There is an innovation of anti-dry fire technology, which prevents the crossbow from dry fire.

If you forget to crank the string back, the crossbow won’t be able to fire. If you don’t hear the sound of “click” while sitting the bolt, the bow won’t fire. The click lets you know the nock is seated correctly, and the ears of the nock deactivate the R10’s anti-dry-fire safety.

Assembly

However, we have seen that assembling other crossbows might be difficult. But the Ravin R10 comes fully assembled with a manual if you still feel the need. So your job automatically gets reduced.

All you have to do is mount the scope rings on the Picatinny rail, then mount the scope and attach the side-mount quiver and accessory bracket on the underside of the stock. It takes just two shots to adjust the size and fine-tune the range.

It took us almost 10 minutes to get ready for the range.

Cocking Mechanism

Cocking is effortless, smooth, and well-organized. The Ravin R10 has a built-in crank cocking/decocking mechanism, generally called the Versa-Draw cocking system. It is attached to a free-floating strap. This mechanism decreases the crossbow’s overall weight to approximately 12 pounds of force, allowing you to stop the draw at any point. The cocking handle is, of course, removable.

The Versa-Draw cocking system is the best because of its safety and efficiency. The unique cocking mechanism ensures the crossbow is cocked 100 percent for a perfect shot.

Cocking Assist Bar

This feature is on the grip side of the stock, which is adjustable and specially constructed for left-to-right-handed hunters or shooting enthusiasts.

HeliCoil Technology

This patented technology provides a frictionless flight system. It permits 340-degree rotation of the cams by creating helical grooves. The purpose of designing technology was to eliminate friction and energy loss to generate high speed while maintaining the outstanding balance of the cams.

It ensures that there is no downward pressure. Therefore, it is used for unmatched down-range shots with great accuracy.

Styling

The Ravin R10 crossbow is not only a super strong and accurate crossbow, but it also has a sleek and slim design. The black and orange color contrast gives the crossbow a modern and stylish look, and the way its other parts are designed is just the cherry on top.

The attention to every detail in this crossbow shows that every aspect was considered while designing, resulting in a product that performs well and looks fantastic.

Stock and limbs

The stock and limbs of the Ravin R10 are designed to be hard-wearing and high-performing. It features the cocking force of the Versa-Draw Cocking System. It is a two-handed pistol and can cock and uncock your Ravin R10.

Furthermore, it has Helicoil Technology with an Axle-to-Axle Width of 6′′ when cocked. 10.5″ When Uncocked

Performance

You can never go wrong regarding the performance of Ravin R10. It is 400 feet per second fast. Ravin’s R10 is unique and extraordinarily accurate and can shoot up to 100 yards with great accuracy. It has a vertical killing range of 40 yards. Its revolutionary HeliCoil technology makes it exceptional.

The R10 is very easy to operate. You only need to push a button to release the trac trigger, then turn the crank handle up to 12 times and nock a bolt. Setting up this crossbow does not require much strength. It is designed for beginners and experienced hunters.

Many hunters found it to be lethal at a considerable distance.

The Ravin R10 is among the best crossbows for the money. It has advanced features at a price point and is worth the premium price ticket.

Strings Durability

We suggest replacing the strings and cable every two years or 400 shots, as extending the period can damage the center serving. Make sure to replace them at the Ravin survive department or any Pro shop.

Never use bow wax to increase the durability of your crossbow strings.

Recommended Accessories

To further enjoy your shooting, enhance your skills, and polish your execution. Even if you are a beginner or experienced person, adding the right accessories will continually improve your work and enhance your performance.

You can include a hard or soft case, a shoulder sling, replacement lighted nocks, Ravin crossbow hats, crossbow serving, and string fluid.

Arrows

One point to remember is that arrows can be one’s personal preference, but our recommended arrows will assist you the most. We recommend 400-grain Ravin arrows with Ravin R10 crossbows of 100 percent pure carbon. Aluminum and brass are also inserted into it.

Ravin R20 Arrows

20” Ravin arrows are also recommended. It will provide you with maximum penetration and complement your kinetic energy.

Broadheads

Combining your arrows with Ravin’s broad heads will enhance your shot. We highly recommend the new titanium broadheads for these Ravin crossbows. These recent broadheads eliminate the need for lock rings or O-rings. Ti6AL4V Grade 5 titanium is added to it for the best production. It provides a sharp, honed blade design that perfectly penetrates your target and causes significant blood loss

Ravin Titanium Broadhead

You can also pair your arrows with aluminum and stainless steel broadheads.

Ravin Cases

We noticed that there isn’t any case included in the package of R10 to protect your crossbow. In that case, we suggest you add a Ravin hard case. Although it is pretty expensive, it’s a one-time investment. It gives you ultimate protection for your crossbow.

Ravin R20 Case

A Ravin hard case is constructed to protect your crossbow from damage and make traveling easier. It can hold the fully assembled crossbow, so you don’t have to hassle or waste your time at the time of hunting.

If you don’t want to spend extra money on the case, you can go for the Ravin soft case. This case also provides you with decent protection and easy transport but comparatively less than a hard case.

Ravin Soft Crossbow Case

Storage

However, it is highly compact and lightweight, so carrying it only poses a few difficulties.

But we still recommend the Ravin R182 Hard-Shell crossbow case, which can adequately store and carry the Ravin R10.

Transportation

Considering your feasibility, we suggest adding a sling that can be hooked to your Ravin R10 crossbow. This sling will allow you to carry your crossbow on your shoulder to make your hands free.

Ravin R20 Sling

We recommend the Ravin Sling for this purpose. It is super comfortable and alterable and can bear the weight of your crossbow. Its durability is also excellent.
